Coming out of Caloura we head to Vila Franca do Campo and stop at Senhora da Paz, a small chapel with a beautiful landscape over the town and the Ilhéu da Vila. We take then a road that crosses Ribeira de Tainhas and Ponta Garça. This is a very narrow road with no sidewalks…

We stop further ahead in the Lagoa das Furnas where you have the chance to visit the place where lunch is prepared, among all the hot steam that come off the earth. . As lunch time approaches, we come down to Furnas village and stop at a local restaurant where one of the most renowned specialities of the island is served: the famous “Cozido das Furnas”, a mixture of different kinds of meats and vegetables.

After lunch, you will be invited to take a swim either in the Terra Nostra Park or the small river that passes by “Poça da Beija”. We visit the “Caldeiras das Furnas” and drink the water that sprouts from more than 5 different natural springs. Coming out of Furnas village, we head to the northern coast and stop at Gorreana, a tea plantation that dates back from the late XIX th century and, after visiting the factory, you can delight yourself with the smooth taste of the tea and take some with you back home!

We head then to Monte Escuro in the eastern part of the Fogo mountain and have a chance to see one of the most unspoiled landscapes of the island: Lombadas, a protected site under the Natura Network 2000. We come down to Caldeiras da Ribeira Grande, a small and quiet village and head back to Caloura.
